Mrs. Carle’s following text; about one of her pictures on this page “The Garden of Eden", is showing quite well the concerns and sensitivity of the artist.

« This picture is not simply the fruit of my imagination; it is also the result of my observations of nature. This is a painting born from the lived past at the present time and turned towards the future.

While I was painting this picture, I believed I had to give it this title.  When I think of it, from childhood until today, the "garden", as learn at school, was for me a reference to magic. The Garden of Eden, with the forbidden fruit, where everything was eternal until the "Lost Paradise", it’s a whole humanity on standby for peace and justice.

Lately, in a well known newspaper, the following title written in large black letters drew my attention "Our last century". It was the subject of a book from an eminent scientist and an English astronomer.  I would summarise in this sentence his perception and his fears: "Humanity has only 50% chance to survive the next century".

In spite of his justified fears, I still believe in human being and at his own survival.  Right now, we have to stop and think about the whole planet. And why not dreaming of a "Garden of Eden". This picture a little blurred is emerging from the fog, promises of a better future for those 8 to 9 billion men, women and children who will still be living on this planet at the end of this century.
