VIRTUAL GALLERY Contact with winter (click on image to enlarge it) Quebec is an earth of contrast, marked by the rhythm of seasons. Few places in the world present such strong variations of temperature throughout the year. Winter, particularly, influenced the imagination of many local artists. No other season leaves as many memories in the heart of children and adults to the old men and women they will become one day. Mrs. Carle’s text about one of her paintings "Siberian cold" testifies of the relationship of people with winter. « Monday on June 23rd, the entire Quebec is steaming and is about to celebrate. Outside, it’s over 30C, the weather is warm and the sun is shining. Tomorrow, June 24th is our National Festival. Going by my computer, I see on my screen the reproduction of my “Siberian Cold “painting. Then came in my mind memories from my childhood about winter mornings.
In those days, we had to get up at 5h30 to go to church on the first Friday of every month, or at any special celebrations. Then we were returning home for lunch and back again to school or the convent, both close to the church. It was difficult. I am wondering if our parents, apart from their religious faith, did not impose us a form of therapy to shape our personality, as they did to themselves, but even more demanding.
As the time
goes by, memories get softer. I remember the beauty of the brilliant stars, so
early in the morning and the cracking snow under my foot steps. It was like
music, sometimes rhythmic and sometimes hoarse. The cold was guiding my steps.
